Presentation of the team

Managers: Hervé GALLARD et Claude GEFFROY

The E-BiCOM Team (Water, Biomarkers, Organic Contaminants, Media) covers several fields of application ranging from water chemistry, organic geochemistry to life chemistry. The protection of water resources, the improvement of treatment processes, and the protection of human and plant health are among the major challenges the team is addressing.

Research activities

Research activities are aimed at

  • a better understanding of the environments, and in particular the anthropized environments (water, soil, biological environments, etc.),
  • improvement of treatment processes (oxidation processes, adsorption, membrane filtration).

All the research work has in common the study of the behaviour of biomarkers (amino acids, enzymes, volatile molecules, woody motifs, etc.) and/or organic contaminants (pharmaceutical compounds, pesticides, biocides, etc.).

The specificity of the team lies in its molecular approach:

  • for media characterization: development and use of new detection tools and methods,
  • process improvement: study of the transformation mechanisms of organic molecules in complex matrices.

The multidisciplinary nature and variety of the environments studied are also a strong specificity of the team.

Three lines of research in strong interaction

Skills and specificities

  • Structure and evolution of natural and anthropogenic MOs
  • Knowledge of micro-pollutant trace interactions and transformations
  • Impact of water constituents in conventional and innovative water treatment processes, oxidant chemistry, material transfer in membrane processes (clogging, autopsy, hybrid processes)
  • Thermal and chemical methods for characterization of molecular biomarkers and bio-geopolymers
  • Innovative strategies for vectorizing plant protection products in plants
  • Original waste carbon recovery processes (biological pretreatment, biorefinery, etc.)
