Postdoctoral position

Nanostructured transition metal sulfide catalysts prepared via soft chemistry

Environmental regulations are continuously strengthened to limit the emission of pollutants from fossil fuels combustion. These constraints drive the need to develop highly active and efficient hydrotreating catalysts. Industrial hydrotreating catalysts are usually prepared by impregnating a mineral solution of molybdenum oxide species, containing additional promoters (Ni, Co, P, etc.) onto a porous support, and followed by thermal and sulfidation treatments. Different strategies aiming at optimizing active sites features -size, stacking and promotion level of the sulfided nanoslabs- have been explored including polyoxometalates as metallic hydrosoluble precursors or different kinds of organic additives. Nevertheless, these synthesis methods now seem to reach their limits. and to achieve further breakthroughs in catalyst activity, drastically different synthesis pathways should be explored taking advantage of the great potential of nanomaterials science developments.

In this context, applications are open for a postdoctoral fellowship position funded by the ANR project “PASSCATA” -Polymer Assisted Synthesis of Sulphide CATAlysts- in collaboration with ICG Montpellier, IC2M Poitiers and IFPEN. The position will be based at IFP Energies Nouvelles, in the close vicinity of Lyon (France). The research program will focus on the development of advanced sol-gel synthesis routes of heterogeneous TMS catalysts as those extensively developed for oxide materials. The project will also include multi techniques physico-chemical characterizations and catalytic evaluations in test reactions.

Candidates for this postdoctoral fellowship must hold a PhD degree in heterogeneous catalysis, polymer or materials science, preferably with experimental experience or knowledge of the research field. Creativity, autonomy and strong reliability will be also required. All applicants must be able to communicate fluently in French and/or English (in speaking and writing). The position is initially available for a period of one year, starting in January 2019.

Interested candidates should send a CV, a scientific track record, a letter of motivation and 2 letters of recommendation to :
