Here you can find everything regarding the various degrees proposed by the department of chemistry, from Licence (BSc) to Master (MSc).

LMD means Licence Master Doctorat. These three words correspond to the three degrees of the french education system (i.e., from the BSc to the PhD) which are common to all E.U. countries:

bac+3 (*)
*bac: equivalent to A levels of High school diploma.

The three degrees Licence, Master and Doctorat (PhD) are common to all E.U. countries.

Two websites, but unfortunatly only the chemistry department is in english.

L1 : Licence of Science and Technology

There are three Dregrees available in the Physics and Chemistry field:
Fundamental and Applied Chemistry (Chimie Fondamentale et Appliquée)
Physics – Chemistry (PC)
Analytical Chemistry and Quality (Chimie Analytique et Qualité = CAQ)

Click on the links below to access the different degrees.

L2 Physics – Chemistry

To provide a solid background in Physics and Chemistry, with further training in scientific disciplines such as mathematics. Teaching units (Unités d’Enseignement = UE) are available to students so that they can specialise either in physics or chemistry to obtain a bi-disciplinary major in physics and chemistry.

Master the basics of chemistry and/or physics. Progressively develop an attitude and to practice research by combining theoretical and experimental tools. Expand the expertise necessary for activities linked with physics and/or chemistry (autonomy, team work, use of information technologies and communication …). Be gradually prepared to the integration in the workplace via the preparation for professional life (préparation à la vie professionnelle = PVP).

Entrance Requirements

First year degree (L1) in Science or equivalent. Admission by application for students coming from another speciality other than physics and chemistry.

Further studies : Depending on the selected courses (UE) in L2, possibility of continuation in third year (L3) at the University of Poitiers either in L3 Physics-Chemistry, L3 Physics, L3 Chemistry (CFA, CAQ) or L3 SENA exist. Opportunities are also offered to go to any other equivalent licence area in other universities.

L3 Physics – Chemistry

Objective of the training :

The License L3 – Physics & Chemistry offers a solid basic training, theoretical and practical, in Chemistry and Physics, which is added to regular training to the practice of scientific English. It aims to provide students with a scientific Honours in Physics and Chemistry.

This training can then specialize in either professional or Research Master in Chemistry or Physics or Science Education.

This bidisciplinarité is imperative to stand for competitive recruitment of secondary education including CAPES Physics (during M2) or aggregation Physics (after M2).

Knowledge and skills referred

Mastering the theoretical and practical bases of Chemistry and Physics (see program).
How to use specific analytical tools.

Implement a project or a study: adopt a disciplinary or Honours to define the objectives and context, pose the problem, identify the relevant parameters, prioritize, implement and evaluate action, build and develop an argument; interpret the results, assess their validity; develop a synthesis, provide extensions, time management, teamwork and autonomy.

Have acquired a scientific and organizational autonomy in the workplace (which integrate, collaborate, communicate, write clearly, prepare appropriate communication media, speak in public, …).
Level and admission.
L2 scientific or any other equivalent qualification.

To enter L3, L2 after, Vocational or CPGE or a foreign degree, online application on the website of the Faculty of Fundamental and Applied Sciences

Master Hydrogeology and Associated Transfers

Master Hydrogeology and transfers Poitiers University aims to train high-level hydrogeologists, capable of understanding the major environmental problems of management of groundwater resources both in terms of quantity (optimization of the implementation of drilling, determination of abstraction volumes) and quality (physico-chemical quality of water pollution problems …).

This Master is heavily practical work “scale” with the immediate vicinity of a hydrogeological experimental site is unique in Europe, approved by the National Observation Service CNRS H +. This site allows for practical work directly on the ground, in real conditions: logs of wells, pumping tests, tracer experiments.

Training in the first year of Master focuses on water transfer in soils and aquifers. It is supplemented by courses in M2 more focused on the characterization and modeling of pollutant transfers.

It is a Master professional/research: what is the nature of internships at the end of M1 and M2 in the end (internships or research laboratory) that will tone diploma rather “pro” or “research.”

Part of the teaching is provided in English. The goal is to help students overcome their apprehension about the use of the English language through regular employment in the latter situation over. From this point of view, it is less quality “literary” English used is referred to as its communicative effectiveness.

Approximately 20% of lessons are provided by professional hydrogeologists.

Poitiers: a city where it is good to study.

Discover Poitiers: Website of the Office of Tourism

Ranking of cities where it is good to study (The Student): Poitiers again in the first ranking of cities with less than 250,000 inhabitants. The Student published the fourth edition of its investigation of “cities in which to study. “Twelve subjects were chosen to assess the cities covered by the survey. Poitiers is the first place in the ranking of cities with less than 250,000 inhabitants in relation to housing (“blow of heart guaranteed!”), Transportation, and international influence.
